Town Brookhaven, a developer’s dream becomes a city center

We’ve all looked in jest as a developer comes in, scrapes a site and begins a corporate takeover filled with chain restaurants and national retail. Ugh. Couldn’t they just start local and give us something unique, something special? Think Village Place Brookhaven off of Dresden. Well, it’s a similar scenario that ocurred in the new City of Brookhaven several years ago as The Sembler Company bought up a lower income housing development and assembled a behemoth along Peachtree Road just south of Oglethorpe University. Although the project started and stalled, started and stalled several times during it’s early days, the dream was finally realized as national tenants lined up including a state of the art Publix pitched by many as one of the nicest Publix stores ever built and a Costco Wholesale club. Then, a new dinner/movie spot named Cinebistro joined in the fun, and a super sized L.A. Fitness. Before you knew it, you had a destination. It was dubbed “Town Brookhaven,” which I admittedly felt was a little overzealous. I mean, how can you call a massive retail development anything with “Town” in it? However, I was wrong. The response amongst the community was strong, and the local retailers and restauranteurs did come. Drive through there on any evening, and it’s hard to find a parking spot! The weekends are bananas. Brookhaven, who had in the past always piggybacked off of Buckhead, Sandy Springs, and Dunwoody for developments such as Town Brookhaven, but now Brookhaven had it’s own destination.

Our Keller Williams Realty office was one of the first commercial tenants in the development so I’ve had a lot of experience exploring Town Brookhaven. My only complaint now is that I spend too much money there! It has everything!
